Virginia Economic Development Partnership 19981210 Solid Waste Management Facilities in Virginia vector digital data Richmond, Virginia Virginia Economic Development Partnership solid_waste withheld Solid waste management facilities (Sanitary Landfills, Construction/Demolition Debris Landfills, Transfer Stations and Materials Recovery Facilities) provide an important service to existing and prospective industrial facilities. A statewide coverage of active solid waste management facilities was developed at the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to aid in the process of selecting industrial sites for new industries and businesses. All the information pertaining to solid waste management facilities was provided by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The DEQ was contacted by phone and asked to provide lists of all the permitted solid waste management facilities. From these lists, only the active solid waste management facilities were incorporated into the GIS database. The purpose of this data set is to provide a geographic representation of the location of each active solid waste management facility in the Commonwealth. If this method failed, then the contact person for the solid waste management facilities or the DEQ regional office was called and asked to provide an address for the solid waste management facilities. Locations of the solid waste management facilities were then heads-up digitized with DOQQ imagery and the Virginia Department of Transportation roads. Locations will be plotted on hard copy maps and sent to DEQ for verification, or an ArcIMS application will be developed to allow for online data quality checks. All active solid waste management facilities in the Commonwealth of Virginia are included. The horizontal positional accuracy meets 1:12,000 national map accuracy standards.
